ASMART is an independent organization whose main goal is to promote honesty and ethics in transcription billing practices. A major part of this goal is recommending a common billing definition that all transcription services can use and all clients (such as health care organizations) would want to request. Free membership in ASMART is open to both transcription service owners and their clients because by definition ASMART is biased neither towards the vendor nor the client. ASMART offers a way for clients to know which transcription services offer the billing method proposed by ASMART as well as an open education forum for all members.

ASMART promotes:

  • Standardized rates based on ASCII text allowing direct price comparisons of one vendor to another.
  • More efficient transcription through simplified file formats (can result in reduced costs).
  • Easier, more compatible data exchange between computer-based information systems.
  • On-site, client verifiable billing methods that are easy to do.
  • A listing of vendors that bill using the ASMART system.
  • Dictation generates valuable data, not word processing.
  • Transcription in a GUI (windows) environment.
  • The solution suggested by ASMART solves the following:

    For clients:

  • Cuts the cost of transcription service.
  • Provides an easy to understand easily verifiable billing method.
  • For transcription service owners:

  • Allows greater flexibility, freedom, and efficiency by releasing the vendor from specific word processing file formats.
